U.S. territory · No passport, no visa, no currency exchange
The Caribbean, without the passport paperwork
The U.S. Virgin Islands are U.S. territory. U.S. citizens fly there from the mainland on a domestic ticket, with no passport, no visa and no customs line on arrival.
📍 6720 Estate Smith Bay, Unit D101, St. Thomas, VI 00802, U.S. Virgin Islands
St. Thomas is part of the U.S. Virgin Islands, an unincorporated U.S. territory. A U.S. citizen flying there from the U.S. mainland is taking a domestic flight: no passport, no visa, no currency exchange, and no immigration line on arrival. Bring a government-issued photo ID, as you would for any domestic flight, and check current requirements before you travel, since rules can change.
What you get for that convenience is a genuinely Caribbean island — 32 square miles, turquoise water, reef snorkeling off the sand at Sapphire Beach, and duty-free shopping in Charlotte Amalie. Unit D101 puts you on the beach itself: a ground-floor one-bedroom condo that sleeps four, two steps from the sand. Note that a day trip to the British Virgin Islands does require a passport.

Planning the trip
What to know before you book St. Thomas
Getting there. Cyril E. King Airport (STT) is a 28-minute drive from the condo and takes direct flights from several U.S. mainland cities. Taxis serve the resort. If you rent a car, remember that traffic drives on the left in the USVI, and collect a free parking permit from the resort office.
When to go. The listing advertises savings from September to December, which is the quiet half of the year and overlaps the Atlantic hurricane season (June to November). Rates are lower and the beach is emptier; in exchange you should look at trip insurance and ask the host directly what the cancellation terms are for your dates before you book.
What to see. Sapphire Beach for the reef and the sand. Red Hook, under a mile away, for groceries, restaurants and the ferry to St. John. Charlotte Amalie, about 25 minutes away, for duty-free shopping and the historic quarter — the 99 Steps up to Blackbeard's Tower, Bluebeard's Castle, Fort Christian, which dates to 1672 and is the oldest building on the island.
One caveat. The British Virgin Islands — Jost Van Dyke, Virgin Gorda and The Baths — are a different country. A day trip there needs a passport, even though getting to St. Thomas did not.

Frequently asked
Questions about this condo
Do I need a passport to go to St. Thomas?
Not if you are a U.S. citizen flying from the U.S. mainland. The U.S. Virgin Islands are U.S. territory, so it counts as domestic travel — bring a government-issued photo ID. Check current requirements before you fly, as rules can change.
Do I need a passport for the British Virgin Islands?
Yes. The BVI are a separate country, so a day trip to Jost Van Dyke, Virgin Gorda or Tortola requires a passport.
What currency is used?
The U.S. dollar. No exchange, no conversion fees.
Will my phone work?
Most U.S. cell phone plans treat the USVI as domestic, without roaming charges. Confirm with your carrier.
When is the cheapest time to go?
September to December is the quiet season and the listing advertises savings then. It overlaps the Atlantic hurricane season, which runs June to November.
What about hurricane season and cancellations?
Ask the host for the cancellation terms that apply to your specific dates before you book, and consider trip insurance. We would rather you get that in writing than take a general statement from a web page.
How far is the airport?
Cyril E. King Airport (STT) is about 28 minutes by road from the condo.
Are there extra fees?
The listing states that quoted rates include all fees. A government-issued photo ID and a card or cash deposit may be requested for incidentals.
